WHAT TO EXPECT
Initial Phone Session
To get started, we will have an initial phone session where we will schedule the session but also discuss what you want the outcomes of the photo session to be. We will talk about how you plan to use your photos (personal or business, print or online, etc) and what type of feel and look you want to convey. This initial phone session will help us both to determine the best locations for the shoot as well as help you to prepare your wardrobe options.
The Session
I shoot everything at your location, be it your home, office or other location, utilizing as much natural light as possible. During your session we will progress between different outfits and different locations, going with what's working and ensuring that we get a good variety of shots. This means being both indoors and outdoors. I strive to keep the photos as natural and spontaneous as possible so during the shoot I will be talking with you, asking you questions, and helping to keep your mind off the camera as much as possible.
Post-Session
You can expect to receive an email link to your online viewing gallery within one to two weeks after the session. This allows me time to retouch the images and pick out those that I feel are most effective at conveying the feel and image you want.
What should I wear to the session?
Simpler is better. For most people, they want their photos to be more about them than what they're wearing. I steer people towards more classic and simple clothing options, such as a white blouse or a black t-shirt. Think Ralph Lauren and Ann Taylor. Not only does this help keep the focus of the photograph on you, but it also helps to keep the photo timeless.
Of course the clothing choices should also reflect your personality so keep that in mind when making your choices. If you usually wear loud, bright colors, you may want to try that out. Or really big necklaces. Whatever is your signature piece, be sure to include it. Since we're shooting everything in digital, we will be able to see instantly what works and what doesn't.
For professional portraits especially, you will want to put together a few different outfits. Most professionals start out with the business-oriented look (suit, white blouse, etc) then step it down to business casual then to a casual look (black t-shirt, jeans, etc).
You can change your clothes as many times as you want during the session so plan out a variety of looks. Just keep in mind that all those changes will need to fit into our allocated time.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule my session?
If you give me at least 24 hours notice when canceling or rescheduling a session, you will receive a 100% refund of your initial deposit (or will be able to reschedule without penalty). Otherwise a $20 last-minute cancellation penalty will be deducted before receiving your initial deposit back.
